While working for a variety of government and community agencies, Marie has accumulated experience delivering therapeutic interventions to clients from all ages and backgrounds, and with a variety of mental health, neurodevelopmental, and learning concerns

1.
Completion of Intake Paperwork

Prior to your first appointment you will be sent several intake forms and questionnaires to complete.  This will provide you with the information on the assessment process, your appointments, and may include developmental history forms and questionnaires.  We will also ask you to send in school and any allied health reports.

2.
Pre-Assessment Consultation

All assessments include a clinical interview that forms a critical component of the assessment, taking into consideration the developmental history and other important factors. Assessments also include the review of school reports, previous assessments or interventions, and communication with other treating professionals (as permitted by you). This initial consultation is a prerequisite for all assessments at Brain Wave Psychology and Assessment.

3.
Assessment
sessions

Depending on the purpose of the assessment, sessions may be completed in one or more sessions.  For psychoeducation assessments, we usually schedule the assessment over two different days, with the first session comprising of a cognitive assessment and the second session the functional assessment of literacy and numeracy.  For children under 7 years old we may book 4 x 1-hour sessions.

4.
Liaison with key stakeholders

In order to best understand your child, Brain Wave Psychology and Assessment likes to consult with teachers, and other professionals involved in your child’s life such as paediatricians, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and/or early childcare educators.

5.
Feedback
session

This post-consultation and feedback session is essential for our clinicians to determine the most fitting options and to offer guidance on which assessment path to follow, based on your goals. It sets the stage for a strong kit of tools and strategies so you can enjoy the way forward.

6
Written
Reports

The written report includes the results of the assessment and outlines your child’s profile.  If your child meets diagnostic threshold, this will be outlined in the report.  Most importantly – the report will include practical and individualised recommendations for child at home and school.  We meet to review this report in detail and help you identify your next steps.
